William Shatner (ici en 1978) incarne le capitaine Kirk dans la série d'origine et les premiers films.

Star Trek, le film est un film américain de science-fiction réalisé par Robert Wise et sorti en 1979. C'est le premier film sorti sur grands écrans adapté de l'univers Star Trek, créé par la série télévisée du même nom diffusée à partir de 1966.

Il existe trois versions du film, qui contiennent quelques variantes dans les dialogues : la version sortie au cinéma en 1979, une version diffusée sur les télévisions américaines en 1983 et comprenant 12 minutes supplémentaires (éditée en VHS sous le nom de Special Longer Version), et la Director's Edition éditée en VHS et en DVD et datant de 2001, version qui contient quatre minutes de plus que la version de 1979 et effectue quelques coupes ou modifications ; les passages coupés du film dans la version de 2001 figurent à titre de scènes coupées parmi les bonus de l'édition DVD.
