Tiens, @Jorune, concernant les versions de son fameux discours, voir notamment le chapitre « Her Famous Akron Speech », dans Sojourner Truth : slave, prophet, legend, 1993 (lire en ligne). Dans la bio de Washington, on lit : « Sojourner Truth biographer Carleton Mabee offers the most in-depth critique of Frances Gage’s famous rendition, which was apparently inspired by Harriet Beecher Stowe’s 1863 Atlantic Monthly article “Sojourner Truth, the Libyan Sibyl” » (p. 224).

J'ai pour ma part aussi trouver d'autres discours qu'elle a prononcés !

Mais ce qui me gène pour le moment ce sont les doublons entre les citations et les citations rapportées... Je ne sais pas ce qu'il convient de faire dans ce cas.

, @Jorune spécial:diff/407715. Oui, je sais, 5 se transforme en 13… (pour info @An insect photographer). Tu remarqueras que ce passage est bizarrement absent de la page Wp:fr Ain't I a Woman?#Version de 1863 de Gage (mais mentionné plus haut w:Ain't I a Woman?#Versions du texte (réf Mabee 1993 )), contrairement à la page Wp:en en:Ain't I a Woman?#1863 version by Gage. NB sur ce passage sur ses supposés treize enfants : « according to Gage, Truth said that she had "borne thirteen chillen," [...] This conspicuous error in Gage's report could have provided a red flag to students of Truth, suggesting doubts about the reliability of Gage's account in general. However, some writers, in quoting Gage's report of what Truth said, covered up Gage's error by arbitrarily altering the figure of thirteen children to five, without giving any hint of uneasiness about doing so. » (Mabee 1993, p. 75) .

Oui, j’ai aussi qlq cita à ajouter. Mais, pour poursuivre, je me dois de prendre le temps d’approfondir encore les ressources secondaires très très attentivement.

Je ne sais pas si tu as un compte sur Internet Archive afin de pouvoir « emprunter » et consulter les ouvrages que j’indique plus haut, donc une petite note en passant sur version Gage, œuvre Story, texte Stowe… :

Dans sa bio, Margaret Washington, Sojourner Truth's America, University of Illinois Press, 2009 (ISBN 978-0-252-03419-0, lire en ligne), p. 301-302 :

« Stowe blemished and fabricated her meeting with Truth to produce a fictionalized female Amazon of "African nature." William Story's artistically idealized African Sibyl was over-sized, voluptuous, thoughtful, queenly, and elegant; Stowe's literary Truth was an oddity, speaking in a droll, thick, almost incomprehensible dialect, uttering queer homilies and phrases, and expressing herself with gullibility and foolish reciprocity. […] The comments Stowe attributed to Truth on woman's rights jolted Frances Gage's memory about Akron, after twelve years of silence. […] Dusting off her creative recall and countering Stowe's version, Gage publicized her rendition of Akron, coining the now famous refrain: "Ar'n't [or 'Aint"] I a Woman?" As discussed earlier, evidence supports the authenticity of Gage's general recollection, if not her rhetorical metaphor and language. […]"Sojourner Truth, the Libyan Sibyl" widened Sojourner Truth's reputation but in ways not altogether positive. Stowe's "Libyan Sibyl" was not only a fiction; it was Sojourner Truth in blackface. […] »
